Categories & collections
There are two ways products are grouped for shoppers, and they live in two places.
Storefront categories
Open it: Products → Categories.
These are the categories shoppers browse — each one gets its own page at
/collections/<name>. (Your internal category, set on the product for accounting,
never appears on the storefront.)
Create a category
- Choose New category.
- Type a name — a preview shows where it will live (
/collections/<slug>). - Choose Create.
The page is a two-pane layout: a searchable tree on the left, and an inspector on the right with the category’s Name, Page address, its parent (Inside), subcategories, and products.
Put products in a category — do it on the product, not here: open a product and add the category under Storefront categories (create a product). The category’s Products card links you to the product list with View in Products.
Renaming a category moves its URL (a redirect is created automatically). A category can’t be deleted while products are still linked to it.
Collection pages (curated)
For hand-picked or rule-based listings — best-sellers, a sale page, a tag page — use Collection pages, under Website (not under Products). Each collection chooses its products from a source:
- Best sellers, New arrivals, On sale — update on their own.
- Category — binds to a storefront category and overrides its automatic page.
- Tag or Search — everything with a tag, or matching a search.
- Manual picks — you hand-pick and order the products yourself.
So: automatic category pages come from Categories here; merchandised, curated pages are Collection pages.
Next: Attributes.
