Getting started
Getting the till ready is a one-time setup in the admin, plus a quick sign-in and shift open each day at the counter.
1. Set up a till (admin)
In the admin, go to Settings → Points of sale. This page has two tabs:
-
Tills — each physical counter that rings up sales. Add one with + New point of sale, give it a name (for example Quito Store Counter), and choose:
- a location — the stock source it sells from. Pick the same location your online store sells from so you keep one shared stock figure.
- a market — which currency, taxes, and invoicing rules apply.
-
Ways to take money — the payment methods the till can accept. A till cannot open a shift without at least one payment method. Each method is one of three kinds:
- Cash — counted in the drawer at the end of a shift.
- Card or bank — settles through its accounting journal.
- Pay later (customer account) — charged to the customer’s account.
If you have none yet, use Create default payment methods to add a starter set.
Make sure point of sale is switched on for the brand under Settings → Brand → How you sell.
2. Give a cashier access
A cashier signs in with their own staff account. On that user, enable:
- Can sell at the till — the cashier permission. It lets them open a shift, ring a sale, and close a shift. It does not let them edit products or pricing. (Anyone who can already manage the store can also sell.)
- Accessible stores — add the store(s) this cashier may open. They can only open a till for a store on this list.
Two optional permissions control what a cashier may do at the till:
- a maximum discount they can apply, and
- whether they can issue refunds.
3. Sign in
At the counter, go to /pos on your store. On Open the register, enter
the cashier’s email and password and choose Sign in. (There’s no PIN —
cashiers use their staff account.)
If the cashier is assigned to more than one store, the till asks “Which store are you opening?” — pick one. A cashier with a single store goes straight in.
4. Open your shift
Before any sale, the till asks you to count the cash already in the drawer — the opening float. Enter the amount (and an optional note) and choose Open shift. The till is now ready to sell.
There is one open shift per till at a time. If a shift is already running on that till, signing in rejoins it rather than starting a second one.
