Shifts & cash drawer
A shift is one session at a till — from opening the drawer in the morning to counting it at close. The Shift screen tracks the cash so the drawer reconciles at the end.
Open a shift
The till can’t sell until the drawer is counted. On Open the register, enter the opening float (the cash already in the drawer) and an optional note, then choose Open shift.
During the shift
The Shift screen shows live totals — Sales, Taken (gross collected), and Should be in the drawer — plus a breakdown of how the drawer adds up:
Opening float + Cash sales + Cash added − Cash removed = In the drawer
Move cash in or out
Use Add cash or Remove cash for money that isn’t a sale — making change, a supplier payment, petty cash, a drop to the safe. Pick a preset reason or type your own. You can only pay out what’s actually in the drawer.
Cash movements are never edited. If you make a mistake, Undo books the opposite movement so the trail stays complete; cancelled movements are listed separately.
X-report
Print X-report gives you a mid-shift snapshot — sales, amount taken by payment method, and the expected drawer — without closing the shift.
Close the shift (Z-report)
At the end of the day, choose Count drawer and close shift. The till shows the sales count, the gross taken, a breakdown by payment method, the opening float, and the expected in drawer. Enter your counted cash and the till compares:
- Balanced — the count matches.
- Over — more in the drawer than expected.
- Short — less than expected.
If there’s a difference, a reason for the over/short is required. The close is a two-step confirm: review the numbers, then Confirm and close shift.
Print Z-report prints the end-of-shift summary, including the counted cash and any over/short.
If the commerce backend can’t close the shift for some reason, the shift stays open and the till tells you why — nothing is lost.
Next: Refunds.
Devices & hardware
- Kiosk mode. The till fits a counter device and locks zoom so it behaves like a dedicated register.
- Barcode scanning. A keyboard-style (USB/Bluetooth) scanner works out of the box. Camera scanning works on phones and tablets with a camera on a secure (https) page, including iOS Safari — if camera scanning is enabled for the till.
- Printing. Print through your device’s normal print dialog to any printer, or connect a receipt printer over a serial cable for direct printing.
